"Hold Countless Worlds in the Palm of Your Hand"

If you poke around this site long enough, you’ll realize that I am an avid player of pen-and-paper role playing games.  As a gamer, one of my favorite exercises is world building - dreaming up fantastic places, visualizing them with maps, and populating them.

I often found that I would get flashes of inspiration at the most inopportune times, such as waiting for a prescription to be filled, or for my food to arrive in a restaurant.  Sometimes I would try to recall the images and ideas later.  Sometimes I would jot down notes on whatever piece of paper was handy.  Neither really worked very well.  I would forget, or the notes would get tossed in to the recycle bin.

A couple of years ago, I started to visualize ways to use a computer to capture some of my ideas.  I even created an application similar to World Builder on my Mac, using Real Basic.  Unfortunately, in the scenarios mentioned above, I didn’t often have my computer with me.  Then along came the iPhone, and I knew what I had to do.  I picked up a couple of books on iPhone programming, and dove in.

World Builder was the result of that effort.

Here are just a few of the features of World Builder:

  • Build any Locale, from a tavern to a galaxy.
  • Create the people and creatures that will populate your worlds
  • Explore you creation with an intuitive “family tree” style organization.
  • Draw maps using brush tools and over 150 pre-made symbols.
  • Customize World Builder to suit your preferred genres.
